Modern Western Muse I — The Archetypes | Studio Editorial Dallas

Modern Western Muse I explores three contemporary Western archetypes through a refined editorial lens: Real Cowgirl, Edgy Cowgirl, and Cowgirl Glamour.

Rooted in the concept of “Yellowstone meets Vogue,” the series examines Western identity not as costume, but as character. Each look was designed with a distinct essence — grounded authenticity, rebellious experimentation, and elevated Western femininity — while maintaining tonal cohesion across the series.

The first two looks remained closely aligned with the original mood board: cinematic lighting, controlled shadow, and restrained styling that emphasized strength over ornament.

The Edgy Cowgirl look, however, evolved during the shoot. While initially inspired by minimalist black-and-white references, the final execution leaned further into high-fashion texture and movement because my hair and makeup artist introduced a shaggy wig he had brought and suggested photographing it wet. That shift pushed the look away from the original reference and into something more raw and directional. The added texture and sheen created stronger contrast and movement, giving the images a sharper, more editorial edge. The result was more dimensional and visually stronger than the original reference, reinforcing the value of direction over replication.

Modern Western Muse is an ongoing Studio Editorial series photographed in Dallas, exploring contemporary Western identity through structure, light, and narrative styling.
