the longhorn rider
The last time I shot with Georgia, we talked about how fun it would be to do a shoot with her riding a longhorn. Next thing I knew, Emmit, who had helped with our previous ranch shoot, had arranged for a longhorn that Georgia could actually ride.
His name was Major, and he belonged to a teenage girl named Brylin. She and her parents had brought him up from their ranch in Waxahachie. Major was the sweetest animal, more like a giant dog than a longhorn. At one point, while I was photographing him with Brylin, he seemed to snuggle right up to her. It was such a sweet moment.

But Major apparently had a mind of his own. A few times he decided to take off running with Georgia on his back. Once, he took off while she was standing on him, and she had to jump off! Georgia's mom happened to catch the whole thing on video.
In between Major's little adventures, we managed to get some wonderful photographs of Georgia riding him and standing on his back. We also took some shots of Georgia on her own, wearing vintage pieces from BLANC.
My favorite photograph from the afternoon was taken with the sun directly behind Georgia as she sat on Major. I had forgotten to put my lens hood on and ended up with some unwanted lens flare to clean up afterward. But I loved the way the light outlined Georgia and Major.
What started as a casual conversation turned into a pretty memorable afternoon. And now I can say I've photographed a longhorn who gives hugs and occasionally runs off with the model.
