Stepping into a shoot can be exhilarating, but every now and then, an experience pushes me outside my comfort zone in the best possible way. My recent branding session with Dr. Katherine Albrecht was one of those moments.
Dr. Albrecht is a powerhouse—an accomplished author, speaker, and advocate, known for her work in privacy rights and technology ethics. When she reached out to book a session with me, she mentioned something that left me both flattered and inspired: she chose me because she could tell I truly liked my subjects. That compliment meant the world to me because I believe that the best branding photography doesn’t just showcase a person—it captures their essence.
A Celebrity Connection
This session had an extra layer of excitement: it took place at the home of her makeup artist, none other than Scott Barnes, the legendary makeup artist behind Jennifer Lopez’s signature glow. His name is well-known in the fashion and beauty industries, and he’s worked with some of the biggest names in photography, including Annie Leibovitz. Walking into that space, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little intimidated.
But as soon as we started, Scott’s creative energy and expertise were a gift. He didn’t just do makeup—he understood the nuances of light, angles, and how subtle changes could enhance the final image. His input was invaluable, and instead of feeling out of place, I found myself in an environment where artistry and collaboration thrived.
Capturing Confidence and Elegance
Dr. Albrecht exudes confidence and intelligence, and I wanted to create images that reflected both. Her presence is warm yet authoritative, and throughout the session, we played with different looks that balanced approachability and power—a crucial combination for personal branding at a high level.
